I was sitting around the campfire this last weekend, my grandkids sitting nearby. We were listening to the crackle of the wood, watching the flames dancing in the dark. There might have been a roasted marshmallow or two consumed, by a couple of us. The main point though, was that there were no electronics! We were off the grid, or at least as far off the grid as you are able to get when you are within a twenty minute drive of downtown Maple Ridge.

Well, here we are, still in the midst of the COVID pandemic. Probably many of you are wondering what all the big fuss is about. I'll bet you 99% of us don't even know anybody, personally, who has had it.

Have you noticed, while reading my books, that all three of them feature one recurring character, and no, it is not Squawker! Squawker does not even appear in the third book. The character that appears in all three books is the ladybug! Obviously it is not by accident that she appears, so why the ladybug?

I am not one who generally makes social commentary, but this whole situation in Nova Scotia, is something which is as representative of a pandemic as is COVID-19. I'll get to that in a moment, but first, the death toll has now reached 23 people.

We are really excited to introduce to everyone, The Christmas Princess. Writing the story was fun, considering that I wrote it with my granddaughter, Scarlett, who was four at the time. It was near Christmas, her brother had just recently been born, and Scarlett, much as she loved her new little brother, had been pretty much convinced that she was getting a little sister.

Welcome back everyone ~ I got some nice support on my last blog so I thought that I would slip in another couple of ideas to keep those rambunctious children on the go and engaged. The first comes from my niece, her husband, and their two girls in Alberta.

Good day to you all ~ It looks like the lazy, hazy days of summer are finally here, at least I hope they are. I was sitting on my deck, after lunch, wondering what I could do, berfore leaving for three days of camping tomorrow.

Good day folks ~ Well, times are changing aren't they. Who ever thought that there would come a day when the world would be running scared from a virus. Well, maybe some of us did, but really, not one of us had a clue what to do when COVID-19 showed up.

George Floyd's murder was just that, murder! There were no mitigating circumstances that would absolve those four policemen of their guilt. Having said that we need to acknowledge that the riots and looting taking place in so many US cities are as Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods and several others have stated, unconscionable. Those acts, if not on a par with Mr. Floyd's murder, are still reprehensible.

While family pets tend to be furry and four-legged, Jeff Bloom grew up with fairly unconventional pets. Jeff Bloom had pet crows in his childhood, and has just released his first children’s book about one of Squawker’s adventures.
